Soon car manufacturers, e-commerce can use postal service : Secretary (Posts)

With traditional business dwindling, Postal Department looking for new avenues. The Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and E-commerce companies can soon will be able to tie-up with the India Post, which spread across 1.50 lakh locations across India, to reach out to their customers/potential customers. The India Post, is being modernised with an investment of over Rs 4,900 crore, which will bring all the Postoffices under one net and all the operations will be computerised. On the backdrop of the declining traditional businesses, including transaction of letters and post cards, the India Post is now planning to take a new avatar, with a budgetary support of over Rs 4,900 crore from the Union Government. “In the recent years post offices have started offering various services including courier, parcel and others as the traditional businesses of Post Offices, like letter and post cards were declining”, said the Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, after inaug

ചെന്നൈ: തപാല്‍ വകുപ്പിന്റെ സേവനങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ ഇനി എ.ടി.എമ്മും. തപാല്‍ വകുപ്പിന്റെ രാജ്യത്തെ ആദ്യ എടിഎം ചെന്നൈയില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം തുടങ്ങി. തപാല്‍ വകുപ്പിനെ ആധുനികവത്കരിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായാണ് എടിഎം സേവനം ആരംഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. പോസ്റ്റ് ഓഫീസ് സേവിംഗ്‌സ് അക്കൗണ്ടുള്ളവര്‍ക്കാണ് എടിഎമ്മിന്റെ പ്രയോജനം ലഭിക്കുക. തപാല്‍ വകുപ്പിന്റെ ആദ്യ എടിഎം ചെന്നൈയില്‍ ധനമന്ത്രി പി. ചിദംബരം ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. തപാല്‍ വകുപ്പിന്റെ ആധുനികവത്കരണത്തിനായി 4900 കോടി രൂപ അനുവദിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതായി പി. ചിദംബരം പറഞ്ഞു. ദില്ലിയിലും മുംബൈയിലുമായി നാല് എടിഎമ്മുകള്‍ കൂടി ഉടന്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം തുടങ്ങും. ഈ വര്‍ഷവാസനത്തോടെ 1000 എടിഎമ്മുകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കും. 2015ഓടെ രാജ്യവ്യാപകമായി തപാല്‍ വകുപ്പിന്റെ 2500 എടിഎമ്മുകള്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം തുടങ്ങും. രാജ്യത്തെ പോസ്റ്റ് ഓഫീസുകളെ കോര്‍ ബാങ്കിംഗ് സംവിധാനത്തിന് കീഴില്‍ കൊണ്ടുവരാനും തപാല്‍വകുപ്പ് തയ്യാറെടുക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. തുടക്കത്തില്‍ അക്കൗണ്ടുള്ള പോസ്റ്റ് ഓഫീസിന്റെ എടിഎം മാത്രമേ ഉപയോഗിക്കാനാകു. കോര്‍ ബാങ്കിംഗ് സംവിധാനം നടപ്പാകുന്നതോടെ തപാല്‍ വകുപ്പിന്റെ ഏത് എടിഎമ്മില്‍ നിന്നും നി

CABINET COMMITTEE APPROVED 10% DEARNESS ALLOWANCE HIKE FOR CENTRAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES AND PENSIONERS CABINET COMMITTEE APPROVED 10% DEARNESS ALLOWANCE HIKE FOR CENTRAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES AND PENSIONERS The Union Cabinet today approved to increase in  Dearness Allowance by 10% to Central Government employees. The rate of Dearness allowance shall be enhanced from the existing rate of 90% to 100%. Revised rates effective from 1.1.2014. Finance Ministry will publish detailed orders regarding this issue within this month.

Central may raise age of retirement by 2 years before the general election notified by march 5

Centre may raise age of retirement by 2 years to 62 General elections' dates may be notified on March 5  The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is likely to take a major decision of increasing the retirement age of Central government employees by two years, from 60 to 62 this week. This would be applicable from March 1. It would be one of the major decisions to be taken by the Cabinet before the model code of conduct for the general elections kicks in. In the Thursday meeting, the Cabinet is also likely to recommend dates for the elections. These could be notified on March 5.  "The government may clear the increase in age this week," said a source. It is likely to be a part of the terms of reference of the Seventh Pay Commission, expected to file its report in 2017. New banking licences: Jalan panel submits report to RBI

NEW DELHI: The committee on new bank licences submitted its recommendations to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday after scrutinizing the applications.  The four-member committee headed by former RBI governor Jalan submitted its report after meeting for the last time. The panel had first met last November 1.  There are 25 applicants. State-run non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) like LIC Housing Finance and IDFC, Anil Ambani promoted Reliance Capital and Bajaj Finance are some of the prominent firms in the race.  RBI had constituted the Jalan committee to examine the criteria, business plans, corporate governance practices of applicants.  Muthoot Finance, Religare Enterprises, L&T Finance Holdings and India Bulls Housing Finance Ltd. are among the other companies who have applied for licences.  Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata group, withdrew its application in November last year.  Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services de

New Delhi, Feb 25 (PTI ) The Union Cabinet is likely to approve hiking dearness allowance to 100 per cent from existing 90 per cent benefiting 50 lakh employees and 30 lakh pensioners in it meeting scheduled on Friday. "The Union Cabinet will take a proposal to hike Dearness allowance for its employees and dearness relief for its pensioners to 100 per cent this Friday as per agenda listed for the meeting," a source said.

The union cabinet is likely to clear some long awaited demands for it's staff in the next meeting later this week The F.M., currently on foreign tour, likely to return India on 26th February and after which cabinet meeting is likely to take place. According to information available with us, merger of 50% D.A., an additional hike of 10% D.A. from 01.01.2014, granting of Interim Relief and enhancing retirement age to 62 years are under the consideration of Govt. and some of these are to be approved in the next cabinet meeting. As the notification of loksabha poll may be issued in the first week of March, this would be the last cabinet meeting before the code of conduct comes into force. So the central employees and pensioners may definitely hope for some bonanza to be announced this week.

Bimal Jalan panel on bank licence expected to finish work by March

The government on Tuesday said Bimal Jalan panel which is scrutinising applications for new bank licences is expected to complete its work by March 2014.  "The (Jalan) committee is expected to complete its work by the first quarter of the year 2014 and submit its report along with recommendations to RBI," Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.  Thereafter, RBI will take a decision to issue in-principle approval for setting up of banks by the eligible applicants, he said.  RBI constituted a high level advisory committee under the chairmanship of for RBI Governor Jalan for screening of 25 applications for new banks in the private sector.  The guidelines for setting up new banks in private sector was issued in February 2013. The last day for receipt of applications was July 1, 2013, he said in reply to another question.  In all, he said, RBI has received 27 applications, out of which two applic
